Arnold spent a lot of time with me trying different instruments and talking bass on a number of visits. The Cleveland was impressive, but the LaScala was a better fit for me. I chose a deep brown finish, added a Full Circle pickup and upgraded to Sloan machines. The bass is responsive, punchy and full of tone.
I have had her for a month now and she continues to impress. It is exciting just knowing that the sound quality will only improve with age.

I love the finish, did you ask for a darker finish or is that standard on the La Scala? Also, what made you decide on the La Scala instead of the Cleveland? It took me a long time to decide myself.
Michael

Michael | Hi Michael,
Yes, I asked for a darker finish which is more than their standard finish. It came out beautiful. Just keep in mind that because the body is so dark, you loose some of the contrast between the body and the purfling. Not a problem for me. I could always get gold pinstripes.
The Cleveland sounded great too, but I love the asthetics of the La Scala and the body shape felt more comfortable. Both were easy to play, but I kept going back to the La Scala.

I know they are not an optimal string for arco, but I feel that I am beginning to pull a nice consistent sound.
I did a gig with her last night and the pizz was great. Nice even notes across strings and up and down the neck. The bowing has sure helped my intonation. I have always used a Realist PU, but I now love the Full Circle. I think my volume was about 40% bass - 60% amp last night. I asked the piano player what he heard and he thought the tone was all bass. Not bad! I do not think I will need to go the mic route with this bass. |

I do not like the mounting method as it popped off the strings a few times while wrangling my cable. I could try and find a fastener similar to the realist. Any thoughts? |

Any thoughts? | I take the string hook and nuts off the end of the jack and use two wire ties coming from the G string hole and notch on the tailpiece. I point the open jack down towards the endpin. Wrap the cable round the tailcord and once around the tailpiece to keep it off the top of the bass, plug in, done. |

I once spent weeks looking for a buzz that was due to the pickup cable touching the top. It would come and go and only on certain notes. Drove me nuttier than usual. BTW - that's a beautiful bass. Arnold does nice work. |

I've never had the chance to play one of the NS basses, but everybody seems to love them. If I was to consider a backup instrument, I'd definitely check one out. |

I went to an auto accessory shopand bought some plastic p clips like the Realist but found they didn't grip the metal jack securely. I went back and found a metal version with a rubber insert which does the job perfectly. Uptite and Outasight! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
