new la scala pictures

Hello All,

Here are some pictures of the La Scala #178 that arrived yesterday. It is stunning how well this instrument is built. It has a matte finish that just feels good to look at (thanks Wil!), and while playing it last night, I was blown away with the strength and character this instrument has. The sound is full and punchy and very even across all the strings. A truly amazing instrument.

Also, I was surprised at how light this instrument is, especially in comparison to my Engelhardt. Thanks Talkbass for turning me on to New Standard! And many, many thanks to Arnold and Wil for doing what you are doing so well, and sending me this bass!

Here are the pictures with my friend Zack holding it:

Wow, what a neat looking instrument! It's too bad Arnold didn't put some of his oil or whatever on your bridge... the color would have matched well with the instrument.

Beautiful axe, Joe...congrats! It's a true measure of your fondness for the bass that you replaced your own fantastic artwork with a picture of Arnold's in your avatar.

Joe, in reviewing the pictures, it occurrs to me that your new bass makes me look pretty good. And just think how it could improve my tone!

Maybe you ought to just give it to me!

Larry, congrats on the one coming to you. Will you post pic's of yours when it arrives as well? I look forward to hearing your thoughts as well. Is yours going to be a ply or hybrid?

ajbass, this one is a ply. I wouldn't even try a hybrid in this arizona desert.

Chris, it sure is pretty, I love the effect that the matte finish gives it, and it sounds better than it looks, as I am sure you know from yours. How is your injury, getting better?

TBeers, thanks! and the oil on the bridge is a cool idea. For now though, I wouldn't change a thing.

and Zack...it does look good with you, but alas, sorry buddy this one is mine.

Chris, .... How is your injury, getting better?
Thanks, I sprung for the hybrid. I will certainly post pics when I get it.

Congrats again, Joe.

LARRY, JOE, and CURLEY - Nothing too serious, but thanks for asking. Kind of a "three steps forward, two steps back" kinda deal at the moment, which sure beats the alternative.

Now, enough about my hand...get back to the "OOOOH" and "AHHHH" stuff!

Sorry if I confused all of you with the "oil" comment. It just darkens the bridge a little bit.
