I am from Taiwan.

The market for DB is very very limited. Therefore, the local made basses are rare. I only know two stores with hand-built bass. I got one of them with a low end laminated violin corner. The quality is poor. Perhaps higher quality might improve. Beside, they do not have a clue of how to set-up Jazz bass. The nuts and string height is way above standard. It is not possible to play.

Nowadays there are many China made basses here, the quality is very good. However, due to higher humidity, some of them need to be re-glued.

I will suggest that you look for US made instrument. It's easier to find in your price range. Also, set-up and after service are accessible. I will replace my bass without hesitation if I live at your area. Probably a Upton hybrid. Seems to me they know how to setup and the quality is good.

how about this one

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and it's killer. See what you think:

*OFF MARKET* FS: Brand New Shen SB100 - oil varnish

I scan "da Bay" every so often for basses (mostly for amusement) and noticed someone selling an Eberle ply for $750. States he bought it from bassesonline (aka Yankel's). The only problem seems to be that it's in MD and it's a pick-up. The seller says he bought it a few months ago and now wants to sell it to raise some money for a Fender amp.

Is your bass a SB100 or a SB150?

Rest of the story.

The crappy bass was purchased ("cream on a shingle") and returned a week later when seams started opening. I'm amazed it lasted that long. It was the less bad of the two specimens my friend ordered specifically by maker and model.

The damaged bass was repaired and it played better than the crappy replacement.

The damage came from carrying the bass in a camper trailer with a sliding livingroom. The bass was put inside and when it was time to go it was forgotten. The slider didn't want to close so it was pushed by many helpers - wrecking the bass.

This guy is on my list now.

Yow... that's a new one to me. Hopefully the trailer owners keep better track of their kids than they do of their musical instruments.

I have an Eastman 85 Laminate bass. It plays so well that it has become my main gigging bass. I never worry about it in poor weather. For the money it is easily one of the better instruments out there.
