New Standard

Has there been a change in the New Standard business? I've heard that they are being finished in Connecticut now. Is Arnold still involved? Any connection to Upton?

Good question. The best answer will come from here...

Consider me "on leave" from the business, though I remain active as co-founder/adviser/consultant. Because I am so over-booked with building my handmade basses and with repair and restoration work, my friends at the Upton shop are picking up the slack and trying to alleviate the backlog with the New Standard basses. I am committed to insuring that the quality remains excellent, and I am always available to Gary, Eric and Wil. So far this transition has worked seamlessly, and I'm thrilled that more bassists will have the opportunity to own and play these fine instruments.

Thanks

Arnold,

I'm glad to hear that you are still involved. Also happy to hear that you're busy building your basses.

Thanks for the reply.

Wow! The value of my "pre-CBS" La Scala must've just skyrocketed!

No such luck. The newer ones are gorgeous, too. I know several people who play them (and I have a laminated one) and they all play like dreams.

Somehow... I don't think it works the same way! ;)
