Newbie to DB

I'm admitting total ignorance here and need some opinions.
Been playing solid body electric bass for many decades but have wanted to make the jump to double bass.
Would this be something to consider ?
It's a Christopher 3/4 Concert 200 series w/ bow, pickup and case for $1100.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Christopher basses are generally pretty nice. I would go for it. If you have the money, it looks like a good deal and it is alwAys a good idea to start with a high quality bass.

Although you're probably pretty safe here (and it sounds like a decent deal), I'd still get a professional double bass luthier's opinion about this instrument. You can find one in your area here: http://www.gollihurmusic.com/luthiers.cfm

The double bass is a completely different instrument than the bass guitar. Read the newbie links here and find a teacher in your area. You will need a good teacher to get off to a good start.

Best of luck.

+1. It's not simply a matter of picking up a DB and playing.

Great advice from everyone here. I just want to second the "people" part of the answers you've received (luthier/teacher). Getting a luthier's opinion will not only help you avoid a problem bass; it will establish a relationship with someone who can work on/adjust your instrument in the future. A teacher is a great idea even if you are very accomplished on BG. That said, the only way to get started it to pick up a DB and start playing. It's not "simple" but that's the first step...

So you could offer the asking price pending an inspection by a luthier (just like you would with a piano or a used car). This will help you avoid any "hidden cost" of expensive repairs, etc.

But I'd agree--if it checks out, that looks like a good outfit for just over $1k (I think seller is correct that the retail price new is 2x that).

P.S. Here's the Christopher page with some additional info about that model.
