Noob needs help.

Hi I'm 16 year old double bass and electric bass player. I'm into all kinds of music but especially jazz. I need to get my own bass. Right now I've got an indefinite loan on my school's double bass but the more I improve with skill the less it cuts the mustard. I just really don't know anything about basses though. I don't know how I should go about buying one. Help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Axel.

Newbie links...

If you check out the newbie links at the top of this forum then come back with more specific questions people will be better able to give you advice.

It will also help us help you if you fill out your profile and give us an idea where you live. There may be shops in your area where you can go play a lot of basses and start sorting out what you like and can afford from what you don't like and can't afford and start getting a feel for price vs quality.

It's good you have a bass to play now and realize there is a lot to learn before making a major purchase like this. Good luck in your search !!!

I thought that was right, but was too lazy to check the number. You and Andy go ahead.

any details on the school bass your playing? if your bass is set up improperly like many student basses can be, it can be a problem as you learn it so if you have a teacher ask them about it. but if you have a decent bass (doesnt have to be great), just make due with what you have until you can buy your own.

Am I over or under 3000? What percentage have more than a casual fleeting
interest?
