Nor Cal upright dealer?

I'm from Sacramento and I'm looking to buy an upright bass. My jazz buddies have been urging me to make the change. I'm looking to stay under 2k and like the idea of finding a local dealer to look to for advice, set up and repairs. I'm fine with going at least as far as the sf bay area. Or would be ordering something like a Shen sb80 from Upton music be a wise alternative? Any advice on where to start?

Jeff Sahs is a great doublebass resource in Sacramento. One of my go-to luthiers for setups and repairs, Jeff usually has a decent selection of basses in various price ranges. Jeff's phone number is (916) 739-1962.

I have bought basses from both and both are great to deal with. Jeff's the main luthier in Sacramento though (and quite good a bassist!), so give him a call.

UB for sale

I have a nice bass (Hans Kroger) for sale located in San Leandro. It's made in Korea with German materials. Great sound, easy to play. You are welcome to try it out if you are out this way. Asking $1800 includes realist and new bass bag. alavakian@yahoo.com
