Actually, if I were a rockabilly bassist, I'd think that bass was pretty much THE ****. I'm not, and I still think it's kinda cute. As it is, I think this bass will be pretty misunderstood in the regular "basses" forum.

After all the years of classical training, the endless gigs and recordings, all my overly educated self has to say about this bass is... SWEET!!!!! If I had 1200 lying around I'd pick it up and just look at it...all the time.

Thumbs up I like it

Personally, I'd go a bit more subtle- say an Azola Eurocoustic in seafoam green w/purple flames & no leopard print. But to each his own.

I would play that bass in every situation evar. I would bring it to orchestra and play bach on it. It's got style, and come on, who needs to sound good when they have style?

((((Joking.))))

Yikes!!!

Absolutely hideous! What a mess for someone to correct.. I'd never attempt to restore that DB. Thats hundreds of hours minimum I'm sure.

And a hood scoop and flocking. Maybe a lift kit for rests, so it can bounce up and down like a low-rider while the section pauses for those endless pauses in the Saint-Saens Piano Concerto.

I really dig this. I used to play upright/electric in a sci fi surf band in Boston called the Fliptones. We used to dress up as if we had just fully outfitted ourselves from the Monty Ward catalog - slightly undersize polysester suits, etc.. This would have worked perfectly...

I'm digging the reverse flames with natural wood more than the jaguar print ribs, but hey, it's not a bad combination really. I've heard that K&K slap pick-up system and those are fantastic for translating good slap sound in a high amplification situation. If it's in good playing condition, the price is a steal for a vintage Kay. The cool paint job and pick-up system is just gravy.

The flames are cool but the leopard print is kind of sissy IMHO.

For sure, a neck pickup (like the K&K) is a must to get good volume out of the slap. K&K seems to be the "standard".

Does that finish affect the acoustic sound? I think it looks cool, but would assume it's an amp only instrument.
