Old german double bass for sale!

I have the opurtunity to get this bass for a low cost and i would like to know if it is worth messing with.

my previous posting got no action so im trying again.

Another ID. Help Please

It does not look like anything special, if it holds together and you like the sound, go for it. If it was me and the bass was healthy, sounded OK, I'd offer $300, see what happens.

Only consern I see is that hunk of wood in back of the neck block. Never quite seen that before, probubly means the neck heel or block was broke then semi-repaired.

Neck block

You could be right about the neck.
My cousin says that it was like that when his army buddy bought it from that guy in germany in circa 1953 so who really knows what it went through before that, but I still wonder who built it and when.
