Paesold 593 vs. Wan-Bernadel???

I have the opportunity to purchase either one for $4k.

Looking for experienced feedback and conviction.

Please tell me which and why...

Thanks!

Do you have an opportunity to play them? Someone else's experience with these two models will not always be indicative of the experience that you might have.

I'm sorry if this isn't much help - I'd just strongly recommend playing them and seeing which you believe sounds better.

Thanks for responses so far...

Guys,

Thanks for your responses so far... I have read all the Newbie threads and I wouldn't buy without first trying. However, I have been to several distributor of both new and used UB/Contra basses and my findings have been mix. Especially give the price tag.

I currently own a Christopher hybrid and would love to have the sound and feel of a fully carved UB.

For this price range of $4K, these two seem to be at the top... however... seeking experienced feedback and conviction of one bass or the other (or another still) would help me think through this process.

Thanks again!

Ham, this really isn't about thinking through the process of what brand bass is "better" than the other. The two "brands" you are comparing are both known for making quality instruments in general, but their individual basses are all going to be different in some way. The process for you has to be trying out specific basses and making your decision based on your experience with them. Which one gives you the sound, feel, etc. you are looking for?

Now, I can tell you I played a Wan Bernadel recently that I thought was a wonderful bass, well set up from the seller, sounded and felt good, and the workmanship seemed to be top notch. Does that mean all WB's are great basses and any one would suit you? Can't know, so I wouldn't buy one sight unseen.
