Pre-war Gibson upright bass

Merry Christmas all.

Santa came early this year and I have been inspired to add a pre-war Gibson page to our website. It is currently still under construction and will expand as time allows. We hope this fills a void in the all important vintage American made plywood bass history.

Enjoy!

I have one sitting in my living room right now... it belongs to a local university. (Neck needs to be re-set) I will look up the vitals on it. Very interesting stuff. Thanks!

Cool. Those are some good looking basses. What's the scale length on them, compared to Kay or American Standard?
Hope you enjoy some of your early Christmas.

I read somewhere that Steve Gilmore is now down to one bass, a Gibson ply.

He lives down around the Alabama gulf coast, where plys are standard fare. A piano playing friend of mine did some gigs with him earlier this year, and told me about Steve not liking to end tunes on anything but the key chord, so we have this thing where we name the end of a tune a SG approved ending or not.
