Qenoil bass

Hi everyone,

I was just curious if anyone knew the age of Francois Rabbath's Charles Qenoil bass?

Regards

Ash

Hi Ashley

Charles Quenoil died in 1955. The basses of his I've seen have been from the 1920's or 1930's. I believe he was most active during this period. Somewhere between the turn of the Century and WWII for sure.

Rabbath plays a 1936 Quenoil, modified with the angled endpin.

If you like that kind of bass (I sure do), you need to go to www.slavapub.net and check out George Vance's pdf file interview with Christian Laborie. Laborie makes an amazing copy of the Quenoil Rabbath plays on. I've seen two of them, they are phenomenal. They cost $20,000 Euros though...so I'm gonna go with a Kolstein Guarneri until I'm rich and famous!!!
