question about college auditions for jazz DB

is it standard to use a bass at the place you are auditioning? or is it standard to bring ur own?

I've found it pretty standard to bring your own, if you have one of course. It's also advisable considering you don't what kind of bass they may have on had for you to play, if they have one at all, and how bad the set-up is going to be. If, however, the audition location precludes you from bringing your own, try to find a local respectable shop that can rent one to you (but you may still find the above problems there as well) or see if you know someone there, or even better, call the bass professor ahead of time and see what he/she thinks or if they may let you use theirs. Hopefully by this time you will have had some contact with your future teacher and some rapport has developed between you guys. Professors are usually (hopefully) willing to help and they'll steer you in the right direction.
