R. Becker bass

Has anyone heard of an R. Becker bass? A local guy is selling one, and says it is Romanian made, and wants $700 for it. He says he paid a fortune for it (right now $700 is a fortune to me!). I am an electric player, but would like to buy an upright, and try to learn enough to do some country, bluegrass, and maybe some swing if I can get good enough. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money, but would like to get a decent bass, if possible. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

It's not a well-known brand, that's for sure. But Lemur sells "R. Becker" basses (or has in the past), so it might not be a totally crappy bass, depending on the model/condition/etc.

Any more data you can share? Can you take a peek at the label and tell us everything it says?

My first bass was a Becker bass. Did not get it from Lemur and they do not sell that brand currently, but got it from a shop in the San Diego area. Its a Romanian bass and a decent starting bass. I ended up selling it to a guy who plays country and bluegrass. There are at least two different models. They have been selling basses for awhile. $700 seems like a good price if it is in OK condition. I would do a google search and check out prices.

If you are new at bass, please try to find someone who plays bass to check it out for you as well or get it to a shop. If something is wrong, and/or it needs a set up, new strings, etc. that could cost you a lot more extra money, i.e. several hundred dollars.
