Rent-to-own Programs

Are there any out there that would ship a bass that isn't renting out really cheap Chinese plywood basses? I really want to get an upright, but I wouldn't have the cash to drop on the spot. While I can just save it, it's hard for me to have the will power not to spend it!

Upton Bass was really promising until I saw that it's not a rent-to-own program. I live in a town with nothing for at least 5 hours drive, and even then, there's barely anything. In a year, year-and-a-half my wife and I may relocate to Ann Arbor.

Am I just chasing vapors here? Does such a program exist?

Empty,

Most rent-to-own programs are operated by guitar shops/music stores, where you aren't going to find a great selection. Sad but true, your best option is to save up and shop carefully. You might get lucky and find a servicable used bass bass for less, but generally for a decent player and a good set up (vital) figure on spending 1300-1500.

Good luck.

Well, first of all, I believe that you can negotiate anything.

Second, it depends on what your expectations are. Locally here in Seattle Hammond-Ashley rents, usually student instuments, like Englehardts, which don't happen to be Chinese and are fine for learning on or even working with depending on the context. They apply up to a year's worth of rental to the purchase of ANY bass, not just the one you had on the rental, which I think is a very good program.

Work at it and you may find something.

It wasn't his first ATTEMPT to post. I usually type with one finger while holding both of his hands with the other. This time, I decided to let him have his say.

That's funny - this is what my boys are up to lately. One wrote and arranged the song, the other shot and edited the video.

I don't know who else might be doing this, but we don't do rent-to-own. I tell my customers that I don't want them to own the laminated instrument they're renting. We offer rental credit towards purchase of a better instrument later. Sometimes we have sales for rental customers and offer 150% of their rental credit taken right off the top of their purchase. I think at most reputable shops you'll find that if you are a loyal rental customer, they will work with you in finding your bass..

The thing is that Del's post makes more sense than many we've all seen here.

Edit: I just pasted Del's post into the Google Toddler Translator. It came back as "Evahs on a carved bass." So, it seems he has preferences already!

Yeah, I'm thinking about becoming a Supporting Member again, and asking Del if I can use his sentence as a quote by my Avatar.
