Rentals in Ireland

I will be doing a 4 week tour in Ireland in the Summer of 08'. With budgetary limitations being what they are, I can't see flying my bass over for the shows.

My first thought is to rent one when I get there. I've done some searching with little luck in finding anyone that rents them, thus far. If anyone on these boards has any knowledge of a place that I could rent from, I'm all ears. My next option is to......(pause to shiver at the idea)....buy an electric upright to take, then sell it to re-coup at least a portion of the cost, when I get back.

Any ideas that some of you touring veterans may have would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Hi Aren,

I've toured in Ireland three or four times. It's fantastic and you'll have a great time. I found this shop in Dublin:

They don't seem to have too much bass stuff, but might be a good place to start looking. Also, for what it's worth, Aer Lingus only charges 25 euros for oversize fees and when I flew to Dublin back in September, they didn't charge me at all!

PM sent.

I would agree with Corey that if you can get your bass on the plane that's probably your best option, but there's an awful lot of variance on how much cost and hassle can be involved. I've been very lucky for the most part in terms of not getting overcharged or refused (I've been charged on fewer than half of the flights I've taken the bass on) , but there's always the risk of damage...

Hi, gentlmen.
Thanks for the responses. Do you have recommendations on flight cases? I don't want to spend too much. If I did take my bass, I would take my Kay and I would hate to buy a case that is worth as much as my instrument! Maybe I'll look around for a used case.

I use a hard foam, lightweight flight tunk. It works pretty well. There is a thread about it already that I have posted my thoughts on it. Here's the link:

Foam bass trunks for airline transport?

hope that helps.
