Renting a bass in Austin

I'm flying to Austin, TX in March for a gig and thought it might be cheaper and easier to rent a bass when I get down there than to fly with my own. Anyvody have any thoughts on that awesome bass shop in Austin i need to go to?

Bassist Mark Rubin is the Retail Manager of Violins Etc. in Austin. Don't know what their rental policy is but they had over a dozen basses, of all kinds, in the shop when I was there a year ago.

If Violins Etc. doesn't rent, Mark would likey know who does. He's "fairly" well connected in the Austin scene. And a great guy, too.

I can't recommend a shop in Austin but I'd get on it ASAP because SXSW is the week of the 9th of March and there will probably be a lot of bands needing gear. I presume that might be why you're going down there?

Thanx for the replies. Mark Rubin of the Bad Livers/bad-ass slap technique? Yes I will check with his shop, as well as Stephen Wise. And yeah, it's a SXSW gig! Thanks again for the help.

I'm heading to Austin (from Ireland) for SXSW as well, but we're staying for three weeks. If you find any basses for hire, could you pass the info onto me? By the way, Stephen Wise's email address from his website isn't working!

Can always pull the Guitar Center "return policy" trick...

That Austin store is used to it by now!
