I've seen that one before, scary goth bass... I think it was someones luthier school project. Definitely not as old as it's advertised. Too bad the bridge wasn't carved with a spider web motif

Lightbulb 1897?

I think 1987 is a gift age wise. 1997 might be closer but 1897 is in some dream. The ribs, varnish and overall condition looks like it was made last week.

And what about this one? advertised as an old bass, but only the scroll looks old and damaged, misteriously the bass has no damage at all, everytime this bass falled, only the scroll suffered
Another hungarian new "old bass" ??

That's one way to use the short rib stock...

I kind of like the "plumber's crack" on each of the bouts...

The other looks a little more believable, maybe just overvarnished?

I saw one of the hungarian fakes at Ron Sachs display booth at a convention recently. Even the back seam was offset... what a shame.

I dunno ... I kind of like it. It has baroque character. But i wouldn't touch it for $10k or more.

Wow! 1897 and not a scratch on it! Oh, to be the lucky person who grabs up this pristine 110-year-old bass.

I like the name of the shop..."Banjo Bargains"" ....[shudders]

As a Jazz DB player I run a mile if "Banjo" is mentioned!!

Back on track - 10k Australian dollars is not that much though...is it!! About 500 US after currency exchange....
