I just got this Roderich Paesold 590 on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...DME:L:AAQ:UK:1
Looks pretty good and from what I can find is German made and is ex-Royal Marines band. I am going to pick it up tomorrow so if it turns out to be all shot to hell and not worth a damn I can always refuse it.
Does anyone know anything about these basses? All I can find out about is the 592 and higher and they all seem to be pretty pricey basses. I'm going to email Paesold and see what they have to say but it would be good to know of anyone's experience with these basses.

Don't know the model but it was about $8K. There's a Talkbasser named Steve Swan who's a Paesold dealer. His site is at http://www.steveswanguitars.com/ |

As far as I know, there haven't been any plywood or hybrid Paesold bass models sold in the United States. The Paesold bass models that I've seen in the Sun Valley warehouse and now the Pomona warehouse since 2001 have been the 592, 593, 595, and 596 models. This 590P may be a model sold for European distribution only.

Later they had a few prototypes made of a German-made hybrid that were sold in Europe and never went into regular production.

So it's probably all laminate, I guess that's a good thing for me, seeing as what I was actually after was a bass that would be more sturdy than my hybrid for those gigs where I have to travel a long distance.
I'm picking it up tonight, better pictures and a mini review will follow.

Google her name...WHAT A STORY!

Google her name...WHAT A STORY! | I'm familiar with her (his?) story. I got an email back from Paesold saying that they discontinued laminate basses in 2000 and that the 590 originaly sold for over 3500 euros (approx £2000) so I can see that it was an expensive laminate bass. not bad for £600 with that flight case thing, I hope. |

Very very nice looking bass, nice flame veneer on the back and sides. Sounds good to me, but the strings are orchestral and so is the setup. I'm gonna have to get bridge adjusters fitted and probably switch the rigid wire tailgut for something a little more flexible (i've heard too many horror stories). I doubt that I'll be able to use it on my gig tomorrow as the tension is a bit high with the high action and I can't use my guts amplified as there's nowhere to put a wing pickup (Dresden bridge).
It's a 1996 bass and looks like it has hardly been played, the only sign of play is a slightly grubby neck. The neck itself has a very nice profile and a nice ebony fingerboard.
Overall I think I got one hell of a bargain for £600, not mnay decent German ply basses in that pricerange. |

I wonder what a 7/8 size (they label them 4/4) plywood Paesold 590 would have sounded like. Would it be similar to the old American Standards or currently made New Standards? I guess we'll probably never know, but I sure enjoy thinking about the possibility of an older one turning up sometime!

No bathroom for you. | That's my rockabilly bass, the decals kind of go with the territory, at least it's not coated in thick coats of polyester automotive paint, also it's a production line bass that has no chance of appreciating in value, especially as the body has kind of 'twisted' a bit. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
