Samuel Shen plywoods

I just bought a Samuel Shen plywood bass from my teacher. I hear these are some pretty nice Chinese plywoods. What do you guys think of them?

It's Samuel Shen. If you do a search, you'll read a great deal of info on them. Ply, hybrids and carved as well.

In general, they are held in high regard.

I can't speak to the SB80, but I bought my daughter the SB100 with the same Heliocore Orchestra strings I have, and the sound is very satisfying. It doesn't have the woody, slightly nasel quality of my Shen SB180 but it seems louder, at least within close range. It also responds well to the bow, and has a deep, full sound. Also a very nice looking instrument, her's is a deep rich red/brown.

I bought an SB80 a couple of days ago with Superflexible's on it. Very very pleased.
