Smile Schnitzer & deSola Ruggieri

hey there bass fans!

so i have to tell you about my new bass. due to my road work, NAMM and the holidays its taken me forever to get this post out so hang on!!

as many of you guys know i have both a hybrid LaScala and a ply Cleveland bass from arnold schnitzer and wil deSola of New Standard basses.

did you know that wil and arnold also have another line of hand made instruments? go to aesbass.com and enjoy.

thats it, jump right in,the water is fine and "" teh bass PR@N IS MOST EXCELLENT"". that bass gallery sure is a strokefest. but i digress....

anyhooo...

a couple of months ago a hand made 2005 Schnitzer & deSola Ruggieri model bass came up on eBay (eBay rocks!) and i was the successful bidder. now i have the troika, if only for a short time.

the bass is a 7/8ths sized instrument with a 42" fingerboard. it is in a "browny-slightly orangish" finish that gets comments everywhere i go. not too shiny , not too flat. it has a slightly rounded back and is fully carved maple on the back and sides, spruce on top (i believe).

the tone? funny you should ask, a few TBer's have already tried this bass..... its a cannon. loud and powerful, volume-rich with a "depthcharge"-like fundamental. a few local bassists have already tried it out and everyone agrees that it is huge sound wise. the sustain is phenomenal. it growls, it puffs, it attacks, it pushes the air around. its really LOUD especially under the bow. this bass has serious tone.

while i hate to try make "statements" , this bass is like my "LaScala on steriods". its physically bigger in both bouts and heavier for sure. it just fits in my mooradian bag, barely.

this bass has top notch hardware to round out the total package. the tuners. ahhh the tuners. smooth and efficient. individual and heavy brass. just beautiful.

i had to go out and buy a decent bow, but that is for another post. i bought a killer carbow with a snakewood frog from lemur that just makes this bass sing. my rabbath has gotten serious.

and of course, lemur helped from the gitgo. providing a case for transport and taking care of me. the guys got me setup with starks and some ebony baby buggy bumpers on the treble side. len , jeff and jerry are the best. lemur rocks! www.lemur.com

playing my new Schnitzer & deSola has significantly changed my tone for the better. it's a incredible instrument, and i bring more to my music with it. alot more.

i love this bass. plain and simple.

....and thank you very much Martin!

deeply,

simon

ps. my pictures consistently suck, so goto www.aesbass.com for more pictures.

Congrats-if i ever buy another bass, it will more than likely be some sort of fully carved bass from Arnold & Wil. I love my ply Cleveland.

Your bass looks awesome, and since it's from those guys-it's safe to say that it sounds ungodly.

yesterday i sold the LaScala to a fellow TBer, so my troika has been lost.

i knew it wouldnt last.
