Seattle area instruction?

hi all;

been lurking for a few months, the site has been very helpful

(francois / chris : I did read through the introduction materials, but didn't find the information needed. I do realize the risk of clogging the forum, so delete is needed)

Anyway, I am looking for DB instruction (beginner) in the Seattle area

Demographics

AGE :
adult(ish) 38

LEVEL :
beginner with former musical training (former classical guitarist with some uni training...but that was like 18 years ago so I'm basically starting over, some cello instruction...just enough to realize what a challenge/rich world arco is)

INTEREST :
at this point, general study (both pizz and arco are of interest to me)

PHYSICAL LIMITATIONS :
none known (while it is true I can breath vacuum and love all night long...I just mean I have all 10 with no posture or motion related issues, size concerns, etc)

LOCATION :
Seattle, WA - USA

I've contacted the local uni, but have yet to hear anything

any help/advice would be appreciated

I don't know about Jon's teaching style, but he has a great sound and good pedigree. The kind folks at Hammond Ashley should be able to recommend other Seattle teachers.

You might also want to get in touch with Anna at the Bass Church (206-784-6626). She is mainly a classical player and teaches at UW (I think). She seems pretty well connected so if straight classical isn't what your looking for I'm sure she could make a good recommendation.

Good Luck,
John

I'll second the mention of Hammond Ashley. They maintain a printed list of instructors, or at least they did the last time I was in there before I moved away early this year.

robertsmusicinstitute.com in bellevue run by jay roberts (howard roberts' son) and don mock (howard roberts and don mock basically started MIT in LA).

there is a guy there named steve kim that does private bass lessons. he's been featured in some jazz magazines.

Thanks again!

Liam, I noticed you are from the KY area -- I grew up in Louisville

Hey! Yeah, I'm from a tiny town not too far from Paducah, in the western part of the state. My sister lives in Elizabethtown. I was out in Seattle for 17 years, now down in Nashville since March of this year. Good to be home!

Good luck with the teacher search ... lots of good folks around Seattle, for sure!

Cheers

I'm pretty sure the only bass instructor at UW is Barry Lieberman.
