SF bay area instruction.

Looking for suggestions for an instructor in the SF bay area. I am a long time guitar and mandolin player looking to learn jazz, swing and bluegrass with a good dose of arco and or orchestral technique (don’t expect to play orchestral but appreciate that good technique is good technique...).

Suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

SF Bay Area teachers

Two teachers that consistently get high marks from their students are:

Seward McCain in Palo Alto (650) 856-6406 jsmccain@sbcglobal.net

Jim Kerwin in Pacifica (650) 738-1459

Good Luck! Let us know how it turns out.

I don't have his contact information but look up Alex Baum in Berkley (PM me if you'd like me to make a couple of calls). He is a great player and teacher and a very cool guy. I took some lesson with him about 10 years ago and got a lot out of it.
Best of Luck,
John

Uh, I am not sure about the protocol here, but I teach in North Oakland. PM if interested.

While you've got plenty of great options in the SFBA, considering your interests listed above, I'd second Steve Swan's recommendation of Jim Kerwin.

He's been David Grisman's bassist for the last ~20 years, is fluent in exactly what you're trying to learn, is a great cat.
