Shanks Strings

Has anyone heard of the new Shop Bass by Shanks Strings called the Cavallini Model? It looks really nice!

Is it a worthwhile bass?

Test drove one in March. Decent orchestra bass, worth a look/listen. He also had an Arvi in stock. I would definitely consider it if in the market for a new orchestra bass. Also had a good jazz sound.

Do you mean he's building a bass himself, or just taking on a new line?

He gets them in the white from overseas. I forget if it's German or Chinese. He installs the neck, does the varnish and setup.

Anyone know the pricing? I can't seem to find them in their inventory list.

Mike Shank and his wife Linda should really receive more buzz. They're honest, reliable, and provide top notch work. If Mike is proud to offer an instrument, then it is going to be something special!

My bass is a Shank's Shop model bass (not sure which) but is Romanian so it would not be the same. I love it to death and would be comfortable buying any bass that Shank puts his name on.

Shank

Mike and Linda are a killer team, some of the most kosher instrument dealing one will find. Great work and always reasonable prices.

I have the incredible fortune of living 15 minutes away from Mike's shop. He's an excellent guy to deal with-- he will actually try to find the least expensive solution possible.

I took my bass in for a little bit of bridge work-- my G string was too low, and my bass had been sitting in my closet for four years.

He took the bridge off, re-shaped it, and within minutes I had a better-playing instrument. Even with the cake of Nyman's rosin I bought, I don't think I spent more than $20 in that visit.

I will definitely be buying my next bass from him.
