Shen -high mark-up or increase in value?

A gentlemen was selling a Shen SB 150 for $500 (fine except for a neck that was repaired with gorilla glue).

Before I made an offer, I asked him why the selling price was so low. He claimed that A. Shen basses have high mark-up B. Shens have increased in value very recently

Is any of this true? Or, did I miss the deal of century?

That was a killer deal as long as the neck was repairable (someone with luthier experience will have to chime in on that one). Those go for in the $1500 range and have for a couple years. Dunno, might have been other issues but I'm suspicious by nature.

But Shens are noted for being "more bang for the buck."

Yep, $500 is a steal, they have never been anywhere near that price. I think Kurt may be on to something.

The guy mentioned that the neck was completely broken off and was very well repaired, it was a very clean repair.

He knew he had it priced "a bit low".

One thousand dollars too low?!

Serial numbers

All of these basses have serial numbers. I'd get it and run it through normal stolen instrument data bases.

Good luck!
