Well, it's been 8 months since I got my Shen hybrid. Reluctantly, at first. I went from a carved willow bass to a hybrid. But, my ears didn't lie, and I'm glad I switched. In the time I've had it, it has opened up a bit, and since I switched to the Velvet Blues from mittles, I can't put it down! For this being a very inexpensive bass, I couldn't be happier with my sound right now.
Currently wearing a Rev Solo pickup, but I've been experimenting with a mic, and I haven't used the pickup in a while. I think I've been bitten by the microphone bug!
I'm going to try some of the under 500$ recommendations made here. The mic thing is new territory for me, so I feel like a kid again!
I also had Dave Messina make a bag for it. It travels in style now!
When I get out of the dark ages, I'll see if I can post some sound clips.
