Shen SB150 vs. SB180

Is there a noticable difference in the sound of these 2? If they sound & play about the same, does the 180 cost more due to more expensive hardware or other "bells & whistles" for lack of a better term. I'm mostly looking for a back up arco bass. I'd love to find that the less expensive of the 2 will fill that basic need. Please be honest! lol. Thanks-Rob

Word on the street is that the 180 sounds approximately thirty better than the 150. Yes, and Pops rosin gets kinda gritty in the summertime, even on the 180.

Yes, the 180 is a complete about face.

Based on the descriptions I saw on Nick Lloyd's site, the 150 & 180 are essentially the same except for the cosmetic differences. I'll know for sure in a couple of weeks as I am going down to his shop to test drive the basses.

I was told at the time I was shoping Shen that the only difference in the two is the cosmetics of the wood.

I ended up with the 180. I don't remember how much more I payed for it, but I am glad I did.

Thanks gang. Yeah, I think the wood on back/sides & maybe the tuners are different. I'm going to Nick's this week.
