Shipping a Bass from AL to PA

I have a bass all boxed palletized and ready to ship from AL to PA but can not find a freight carrier that will insure it for the full value. It is a used 1950 AS Bass and FedEx Freight claims they can not insure it for the full amount.

What other choices are there for shipping (driving to get it is not an option). The current freight quote is $151 which is reasonable but I would be willing to pay more for the insured full value...help, advice, and experience is welcome!

I had a bad experience with Greyhound shipping and a broken neck to one of my other vintage basses

Thanks!!!

Check with Bob Gollihur or Upton Bass...see what they use.

I just got a bass shipped out from Phoenix on Southwest Airlines. I don't know if you live near an SWA airport, but they only charged about $100 for a 90lb tuff lite case to be shipped. They insure upto $5000 too. It was super easy and the bass was there in a matter of 3 or 4 hours, not days.

I've had good results with Yellow Freight. ABF Freight also does a good job for us here at work.

Success!

The bass ended up being shipped by FedEx Freight on a pallet, in a cardboard box with air pillows AND a big crate built around it. The shipping ended up being $175 and the FedEx folks were good to deal with. I still had to ship it un-insured (real scary for me) but all the extra package became the insurance. The bass was bought sight unseen and is a bit of a “fixer upper” but it should fit in nicely with my plywood “junk food” bass collection. All in all I would consider this a success.

Thanks for the advice!
