Shuster Bass neck repair

I'm looking at getting an upright, and I've been trying some out around the area through craigslist. I'm really intrigued by this bass, the price is outstanding, but this neck repair kinda worries me. Can someone here put in their 2 cents. The bass is about 3 hours away so a drive there is gonna knock out pretty much a whole day. Is it worth taking the drive this weekend?

My $0.02: Look elsewhere. A solid, properly repaired neck joint should be no problem. This does not look to be one of those.

From the look of that button that doesn't conform to the shape of the heel, I'd pass. Why would he do that? But if you check it out and like it, if the repair fails, you're out the price of the bass. Not a huge loss, but you'd be better off increasing your budget and looking elsewhere, IMO. A pro repair to that area is probably going to cost more than the price of the bass. I wouldn't drive 3 hours for that bass, either.

I agree with Doc and Eric.
Besides, I'd never do biz with a Dork who refers to San Francisco as "Frisco".

EDIT: Maybe my bad. I just noticed that you're in Houston. Is there a Frisco down there?

Thumbs up

Oh. My apologies to the Dork who's selling that awful bass with that stupid repair.
Naw, seriously, I'd pass on that one but good luck with your search.

Brief, quick answer:

NO

Too many good basses out there that have not been "repaired" by their
owners.
