Sizing on Kings and American Standards

A few questions about Kings and American Standards that I am curious in knowing:

Is the depth (front to back) of each bass the same?

Is the lower bout of the American Std wider than on the King?

thanks

1936 King. Lower about 25. Upper about 19. Depth 7 1/2 on both.
Hope this helps.

I am assuming that the lower bout of the King is narrower than on an American Standard?

thanks for the measurements on your King! I bet it sounds great.

The AS is a big bass--not quite 7/8 but bigger than most 3/4. If you're used to a smaller, narrow shouldered instrument, the AS will feel huge for a while. After a bit, it becomes the norm. I've played a couple of Kings and found them to be pretty standard in size.

Upper: 21"
Lower: 26"
Width: 8"

Hope this helps,
John

American Standards have changed some over the years of production,,the earlyA/S basses which had the "hump" shoulders at the neck block measure a full 22" across the top,,the latter basses are 20 1/2 across the top ,,both were 26" at the bottom,Kings are a bit deeper but I dont have one to compair,,kent

Here are some side by side pictures of an early model King Bass and American Standard. And then two later 1950's American Standard.

1937 AS with "hump" shoulders, (before restoration)

1956 AS
