Stentor?

Can anyone tell me about the Stentor Conservatoire Bass? The only store in the city I'm moving to that sells uprights has a Stentor Conservatoire and I would just like to hear some kind of review about the instrument before I set my heart (or wallet) to anything in particular. Many thanks.
Shaun

They're not all that common in the US, being basically English student/conservatory level basses (made in China). That said, a friend f mine's daughter has one in London and is VERY happy with it. I played Stentor busetto at Voker Nahmann's bass shop near Boston and it was a very solid, deep instrument.

Here's their website.

You might contact Peter McGregor in Auckland. He's a very good guy and might be able to ship you something. His shop:

If you do a search on this forum, you can find some information on them. I have one and I am very happy with it, and my teacher thought it was a very nice bass for the money.

Something to keep in mind is that it is a fairly small instrument. They are sold as 3/4 basses but mine snugly fits into a 1/2 size bag. That said, it is quite loud for its size.

I bought mine from Oli Brice who also posts on this forum, in case you find any posts in which he describes the Stentor Conservatoire.
