The Story of Stereo Joe and the Shen 150

Well, I wanted to relate this story to the TB community cause I think that it shows how welcoming the TB community is.

On another thread I was asking about Shen 150's and Calin Wulters when Stereo Joe, who lives in the same city as I, invited me to come out to his show last night to hear his Shen 150.

So I took my lady out for an evening of Jazz and listened to Joe play on his Shen 150. He was great and his Shen sounded wonderful. Interestingly, My girlfriend said that she noticed how much better Joe's Shen sounded than the all laminte bass I have rented sounds.

And the best part was when the set was done I went up and said Hi to Joe and he let me, a stranger, try his Shen (though at first I was too nervous to play it).

Before leaving Joe suggested getting together so I could try the Shen privately, as well as his Kay Laminate, to "try out as many basses as I can" (his words).

I was very impressed with him and how welcoming he was. I have a feeling that this is a bit more common amongst DB players.

Thanks Joe!

Jason

Great account of TB goodness. I've had people here be very generous with me in similar ways and I try to do the same.

I have to say that's not how it started out but she really said that! And when the wife can see the value in a better Bass, it can only be good.

It was good to meet you, Jason and I'm glad I could help a bit in your bass search. Btw, it was KUNGfuSHERIFF who noticed your thread and location and mentioned to me that I might be able to help. TB'ers are definitely a good bunch!

Having been to a TB gtg I can say that TB members seem uncommonly generous. One guy even let everyone play his Fodera. In fact everyone let everyone play everyone's bass.
It was the bar we chose to do it in that sucked! THEY wouldn't let us play at even an absolute minimum volume. So much for testing out those cabs.....

Hey Stereo Joe, how come we don't have an Ottawa/Gatineau Bass Players Club? Wanna start one?
