Stupid question - how to tell...

My apologies in advance for this question. I have a Mittenwald bass that I bought from my bass teacher about 20 years ago. I do not know the history or any further details of the bass (and have since moved and out of contact with my former bass teacher). How would I know whether my bass is plywood, a hybrid or hand carved. I figured I would take the obvious approach in that I paid a little over $2k for it. Plywood probably? My bigger goal is to upgrade at some point but don't really know what I might get for this bass. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
