Teacher and luthier in Toronto area

Hi, I'm extremely new to DB after 20 years of BG, and I purchased a carved Romanian DB from Bassesonline a month ago. I have re-discovered my love of playing and it's got me very stoaked, however I realize that the instrument's current set-up could use some improvement. I also realize that I'm probably picking up some nasty habits that I should curtail ASAP, so any info on reputable guys in my area would be appreciated. I live about an hour north/west of Toronto.

Thanks, Chris.

Ps I have gained 90% of my DB knowledge from this forum, and I thank you all.

I'll e-mail you later on today, I have a great guy that does work on my bass/bow for a fraction of a price of stores.

What style of music do you want to study? If you are interested in jazz, I highly recommend Artie Roth as a teacher. Artie teaches privately at his home near Woodbine & O'Conner on the east side. PM me if you want Artie's contact information.

If you are northwest of Toronto look for Lenny Boyd. He's a teacher with very strong focus on fundimentals, he's played with everyone from miles davis to duke ellington and studied with Ray Brown and Stuart Sankey

Thanks for your help guys, Wally,I am interested in mostly jazz, however Woodbine & O 'Conner would be a 3 hour return trip, but may be my only option. Neal, Lenny sounds exciting, but I can't find any contact info on him from the net. Calvin, still still awaiting your PM.

Thanks again, Chris.

Hi all,

Lenny Boyd lives in Tottenham, not quite as far as Orangeville. I took some lessons from him in the summer of 2006, and would highly recommend him! I got his number from the Toronto Musician's Association...

Good luck with the DB!

Cool to hear that Lenny is alive and well. He was at Humber when I was there in the late 80's. My enduring image of lenny is him shuffling down the hallway, carrying a coffee, wearing a Twisted Sister T shirt.

Ludi Pollak does great repairs at a very reasonable rate. He was my repair / rehair guy when I was in TO and helped me out with an emergency fix when I was visiting earlier this year. He's around High Park and he's in the phone book.

Wow, I live in Beeton, 5 minutes from Tottenham, I had no luck searching the Toronto Musician's Association's site.

Thanks again,
Chris.
