Here are three terms that people use to try to get you interested before you play the bass.
I'm really tired of:
"Punchy".
"Organic".
"This THING moves some serious air!!!! (baby)".
Anybody else need to vent? (baby?).

I suppose it's mostly in the "ear of the beholder", eh? Wasn't it Frank Zappa who said, "Talking about music is like dancing about sculpture"? "Punchy" doesn't bother me so much, but "organic" is just lame - was the wood grown without harmful chemical pesticides? Well, of course it's organic - there are carbon atoms aplenty!
These are well-worn and rather annoying:
"It's a cannon!"
"Dark"
"Warm"
"Mellow"
"Chocolaty"
"Buttery"
"Responsive"
"Ergonomic"
Honestly, these vague terms are really all we have to communicate such subjective info and opinion. So, I guess we're stuck with them.

Chris | I have to take exception to your listing of "ergonomic". That's an actual word that has a very specific meaning when talking about design.

He said something like: I'm gonna put some new strings on my bass and see if I can peel some paint of the walls.
Really, it was my bad because I said "Acoustically projecting". Too deep I guess. As Ed said:
Me: Is it LOUD??????
Seller: On what level, in terms of what and in what musical arena?
Me: HOLY ****.

I actually got a guy the other day that said his bass sounded similar to "Charlie Haden's Vuillaume".
Dono wouldn't want that one.

I loved the "loud bass". My favorite guitarist, not everyone's, is Yngwie (Yngve in Sweden) Malmsteen, and his guitar is "Play Loud" Yngve also plays his bass parts on recordings, and he's a damned good BG. He's kind of a classicist, so his bass parts are kind of Bach-ish.
Paul, thanks for helping make me a happy camper over decisions! |

| | | | I'm not sure I've seen it in relation to DBs but the expression "Plays like buttah" annoys the h*ll out of me. Plus, I get flashbacks of the scenes from "Last Tango in Paris" |

'Specially wif them there flat backins' there. Tricky ****. |

What, you have no clue how to value something so wonderful?
Or perhaps you hope I have no clue? |

Joking aside I snickered simply hearing the word "tone" in my local shop today.
Not a fan of "growl" either.
