Thanks All

Awhile back I posted a request to all double bass players for advice on a 43" scale bass that would sound as close as possible to that beautiful dbl. bass sound (the larger scale on a dbl. bass just kills my old hands). Y'all posted lots of quality info and I ended up with a Godin A4 which only cost $500 (used). I am overly impressed at the quality of the sound you can get out of this thing. Sweet! Now, it's just a matter of technique & practice (and if only I could get a definitive answer on the correct pronunciation of Godin).

Thanks all! What a great community we have here.

Godin is French, so it is Go-DAN, like Rodin, the sculptor is Ro-DAN. A guitarist in my fusion band had a Godin and it is just a gorgeous sounding, playing, and looking guitar. So I might look at their basses too.

Yes, but they have a plant in New Hampshire I think.

Well it's a bit more than a hollowbody slab. This is from Godin's web page:

"The two chambered body design found in all of the A-Series instruments is also at work in the A4 and A5. This design resists feedback as well as the negative effects that loud stage levels can have on top vibration. Vibration of the solid cedar top is further controlled by a cello inspired bracing pattern. "

I have a Godin A5 fretless and it does play well for a mass production instrument.
