| Ordinarily, I would say NO, because just about all Kays I've come across are kind of one-trick ponies, thump-thump. BUT, I just did a big band concert with Duffy Jackson, Chubby's son. He IS a drummer(in the best sense), but he had one of his dad's model Kay 5 strings, one of the nicer ones with the purfling everywhere, and I swear it sounded as good as a NICE old carved bass with that mojo that you can only get with an older, well-played in instrument. He doesn't have much endurance, but he played bass on the first tune, and sounded like he knew what he was doing, to say the least. The rest of the gig was just plain old hard swingin' stuff right down the line, but hearing that old Kay was a kind of awakening.
