All double bass strings are "flat" wound. Of course, anything is possible.

Not true. Some wound guts are round as are Velvet Anima.

I think he's talking about fingerboard shape. Either flat (never really seen these), rounded or bevelled. The majority are rounded, but bevelled ones are common also from what I understand.

As standups go, think Benny Hill probably had a flat, where he most likely enjoyed a round or two.

I'm sorry, did I hear you correct? Did you say sandwiched between two bassists?

No they were right... I play eletric and we have roundwound, flatwound, and halfwounds, I just figured standup basses had those as well. I have another question, why do they have ebony and flatwounds? On eletric basses ebony protects from fingerboard damage with roundwounds. And also the bass man at the local music store said that there is a "jazz" standup, it's height is the same but width is narrower... is there such a thing? He said he got his used for 'bout 600 and has only one little chip on the back. Sounds nice and in my price range, oh and I'm only 13 so my bidget is limited.

Any suggestions on good standup brands?

Thx for your time!!!

That one for 600 the bass man had... thats cheap-er than the 21000000000000000 standups out there
