Thomann basses?

http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_kontrabass_1.htm

Anyone had any experience with this bass? or the kontrabass 3? I've no prior experience on the upright bass, i am an electric bass guitarist. Would one of these be good to start with?

It's a bit of a difficult decision for me. The choice is coming down to me either getting an awesome bass guitar, which I can play well... or take up a new instrument. Can anyone chip in their 0.02$ on this little dilema?

Well, I would stay away from anything with an ebonized fingerboard, you'd be better of finding a bass with real ebony. Other than that, it looks like a decent plywood bass. Before you pull the trigger on anything, Google these places and check out their inventory. Also, if you can afford the price of a great bass guitar and you don't mind waiting a while, check out New Standard Basses

If I'm not mistaken, their basses are made in Korea. If you're in England you might check out Stentor basses, which have various models; and Mussima/Eberle from Germany. I think you can find them both at Thwaites and Boosey & Hawkes.

To me they look a lot like Strunals, made in Czech Republic. They even offer the "washed" spirit varnish finish on some models; you can check on the Strunal website.

Anyway, if that's the case, then it would be a decent bass, but a full setup by a bass luthier is mandatory.

Also check Gliga instruments, they're better made than the Strunals, but more expensive.

Im led to believe that they are strunals as well. Which Im also led to believe are some of the better cheap basses. Personally I would go for one of the carved or hybrid ones. There's more info on them over on www.rockabillybass.com if you do a search on their forums.

Bob Gollihur could be another option. His basses are meant to be decent. Granted they are a bit more expesnive than thomanns offerings.
