Tony Garnier's bass?

I actually spoke with Tony once about his bass but I forgot the name. It's a big beautiful slab cut bass. Anyone know what it is. Of course, Tony has a few basses but this one is his newest.

Tony plays with Bob Dylan btw...

Hey Jason, my memory wants it to be made by an Australian luthier - maybe Benedict Puglisi? I kinda remember seeing a photo of the two of them with the DB in question but I just can't place it. I must be getting ready to join the OLD GUY...

Yeah, I think that's the guy alright. I used to run into Tony at the playground here in the neighborhood, but with the cold, no one is hanging out in the playground these days. The gumbo is legendary...

Tony Garnier's Bass

According to the Sept. 2009 BP article, his current bass was built in 2006 by Paul Davies of Arts Music, Melbourne, Australia.

Thanks,
Pete

I enjoyed Tony's work with Clarence Gatemouth Brown. Really swinging!

BTW, I hear that the 'Angels are riding hogs with the band, and doing security at Mr. Zimmerman's shows these days.

That's the one! There's a picture of Garnier and his Davies DB in this PDF:

Can't open that for some reason. What size is this bass? I know that Tony used to favor 1/2 size instruments.

Maybe as the tour buses got bigger, he switched up to 3/4!

All I'm getting from the link is a pdf that won't load. No biggie.

Tony is a fine bassist, with whatever instrument he's using.

I gotta put my oar in, too, for chanting up Tony. As someone who came from pop and roots music, and who is and always will be an immigrant in the world of jazz, Tony's been an inspiration. I play double bass because of seeing hearing him live with Dylan back in 1990.

I saw that tour as well, right up against the stage in New Orleans. I thought Tony was magnificent.

I can't sit through two minutes of Dylan. Sounds like a Faustian bargain to me. I'd take it, for a while, but...

I Love the literary reference Don. It made me laugh.

I had an interesting experience with Mr. Dylan more than a few years ago (maybe 10 or 15 years). I played with him out in Malibu one day at one of his places. It was not a great musical experience by any stretch; to raw and folky for me as well as out of tune and out of time, but it was fun watching him be BOB DYLAN.

They already have a name. They call themselves The Rolling Stones.
