Hemage bass

Thanks, Francois.

It's certainly a beautifully crafted thing, if the picture does it justice.

It appears to be solid body construction, so I doubt one could hear oneself play without headphones, if such can be connected somehow.

Have any of you played the Hemage, especially with the bow? I understand that David Freisen plays one a lot, often arco. I don't know his work. Any comments on that?

I have a few records.
Some records are new-agey, while others are more jazz.
A nice record (he was playing his Oregon Bass then) was "Amber skies", with Chick Corea, Joe Henderson, etc.
I think it has been reissued under a different name. ("Voices" methinks)

He also played with Bud Shank, Clark Terry, the late Mal Waldron, etc.

Check his website http://www.davidfriesen.net

I saw David Friesen perform on his Hemage bass at the Scottish Bass Trust Edinburgh Bass Weekend, I think it was in 1996. He is an incredible player, and was doing the Eberhard Weber thing of solo bass and multiple delay self accompaniment. The bass is an EUB , so sounds different to an acoustic, but to my ears still sounds good when played by such a player. Definitely small and solid instrument, which might suite your needs better. It also can be heard loud enough for private practise without disturbing anyone in the room next door, and bows O K.

Hemage

Does anyone know of a US dealer for the Hemage? I'd love to see one, also to find out about string length, prices, and other petty details.

There's a web site for the company on Bob Gollihur's (all hail) links page, but with my nearly non-existent German, I can only translate the page to say, "You might be able to learn something if you only read German." Perhaps you can help me:
