This is TRUE. I swear to goodness...

...last night I DREAMED about a bass!

Some of you might remember me from a couple years back. I bought my base when I was 59 years old! I was determined to learn to play it.

At first I had practice lapses but then I moved it from the house to my office and I find an hour each day to play. My instruction is still limited to tapes and DVDs. I still haven't found a teacher. But I remembered something I heard on one tape: "Now that you know where the notes are, on the bass, and can play the 12 major scales, practice them for a couple years and get back to me!" The guy was joking but the point was not lost. If you can't manage to go to a regular lesson at least play the thing everyday and play the scales.

I stated this on here a while ago and someone told me that I should practice those scales in Circles of Fifths and even if I didn't know why I was doing it that way, I would understand later. I love my base. I talk to it. When I walk into the room where it stands, a smile comes to my face and I can "feel the love." I bought a little book called "Fun with String Bass" and have pretty much "mastered" the 40 or-so Esay Bass Solos it contains. They are melodies and it sounds funny but I play melodies on my base to help my reading. I tried to get Book 2 (it's printed by Mel Bay) but they said it's out of print.

Last night I DREAMED of a bass. It wasn't infidelity because she knows that I have been contemplating buying another bass for the house. Sometimes I feel like playing when I'm at home and I'm bored. Maybe my wife's watching something on TV that I don't particularly like and I wish I had my bass. I have talked to Bob Gulihur (who lives not far from me) and I want to get one of his Eminence EUBs. He gave me a demo of one and I absolutely LOVED it.

The bass I dreamed about, however, was an acoustic. A friend of mine had been looking for a new one and he emailed me that he found a beautiful "blonde" 3/4. I dreamed of it last night! She was a BEAUTIFUL BLONDE!

Thumbs up

Nice dream Jaydublyew,
You started at age 59? Good for you. I'm 51 and waiting for my very first URB to arrive. I've been dreaming about this for the last 25 years, and I can hardly wait.

It's hard to teach an old dog new spelling. Not that he's an old dog - at least he's no older than I am. We're all dogs. That's why they call it a doghouse.

BTW I just got my first DB. Currently I spell it better than I play it. But it sure is fun.

I'm Obsessive-compulsive and I just got over proof-reading posts so many times that the time would expire. I let them go now as they are: used the word BASS ten times and misspelled it twice. Oh, well!

What I left out was that I decided to try after a health problem zapped some of my recall capabilities. Reading music is a higher brain function and my attention span and concentration is vastly improved. I am sure that I owe it to my bass.
