Types of Bass for Certain Musical Genres

Hi all, I'm new and I have just rented a beautiful Genial DB Bass (from Romania) carved spruce and maple. $3000 CAN.

I really like the tone of this instrument, very sharp and clear. I have tried out many others (plywood) but did not like the tone. Too fat and fuzzy. I have wanted to play standup bass ever since I saw Cachaito on Buena Vista Social Club play.

I intend to play Folk and Jazz as well as latin styles with it.

However my question is ... is this bass too sharp clean and squeaky for those styles? Is this Bass strictly meant for Classical music?

I have googled Genial and it is hard to find alot of info on this bass.

Genial is a Gliga brand (they have four levels - from cheapest to priciest Genial, Gem, Gama, Maestro) so you might have more luck searching for Gliga.

Thanks TSP. That made a HUGE difference in my google/yahoo search results. One site says the bass is a good concert and jazz instrument.
I imagine you can pl;ay any bass for any type of music however I do hear people saying a bass with a sharp clear sound is good for jazz.
