We had a female singer sitting in and the ring finger on my left hand stopped working. There was no feeing in it and it just locked in place next to my middle finger. It felt like the problem was coming up my forearm like a tendon or something. I somehow managaed to get through the tune. We screwed around for about 2 minutes while she left the stage and I was pretty much fine by the next tune. It scared the hell out of me. Has anyone else had this same experience?

This was on slab, but definitely HURT. I had reached my limits & kept going. A good long break & self-massage made it release, but I was through playing for the day.

I just started practicing more often and longer per practice session and it took care of itself. If I go a couple of weeks without playing and then try to play a 4-hour gig it will act up again. Heat and exhaustion make it worse. It's just a lack of muscle tone. If you keep your chops in shape through regular practice (in this case your chops are your fingers and forearms) this problem should go away. |

Yeah, I think you're on to something here. Maybe it's a psychological thing - the brain was focusing so much energy into that finger that it was overloaded.

To my surprise, I was back playing guitar after a month of immobilisation and about two weeks of excercises. Now that finger is as strong as ever.

Drurb is right (as he almost always is). Get it checked and be sure. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
