I'll try to send you some photos and what little info I have in the next few weeks.

In my bass travels between San Diego and Seattle, I have seen at least two blonde King Moretone basses that were in fine original condition with the original decals. The blonde finish on these two has a milky whitish quality to it compared to the yellow blonde Epiphone or Kay models. Has anyone else had in-hand experiences with these fairly rare instruments? |

I say 'was' because the big flood last year destroyed it. It will be missed but I'll no doubt find another somewhere down the road. A good excuse to go shopping!

I have a '36 American Standard. I bought it from Jerry Fretwell. Deep, resonating sound. The player who sold it to Jerry had it for over 65 years. I will pass on the story behind the bass/owner to the website.

I just looked at the Mortone info., and am curious about the statement that the blonde basses might be refinished. I say curious because there have been a couple for sale on TB in the past year and they weren't described as refinished. Also, I tried one out that was for sale in Buffalo about 4 years ago. It was as blonde as could be and had lots of patina (plus the original decal near the button). There's no way that one was refinished!
Blonde basses don't really work for me, but it'll be interesting to see how many people have original Mortones that are blonde.
Cheers,

Thanks for keeping the AS and King flame alive and the history secure and accessible to all.
I’ll be sure to send off my list of basses to add to the site.
Keep up the great work…if you consider it work. |

I'd also like to publicly thank ole Kip Martin for getting this stuff off the ground a few years ago. It was sad that Kip couldn't keep running it, but some health issues prevented him from devoting the time to keep it maintained.
Knowing the access that Kent has to others, like Dennis Crouch, Barry Bales, Ike Harris and others working in the Nashville area, gives him a really good jump start at helping to document this often forgotten or overlooked info. Kent is a major authority himself.
There have been times in the past when this "AmStandard" club has sent out alerts to each other when we've spotted scam posts on Ebay. There has been 2 times that the #2753 bass (that I own and bought off Ebay) has been listed "for sale" on Ebay. It's kinda frustrating to convince them that the bass in the pics weren't really for sale, but they finally figured it out.
By having a current list of serial numbers, pics and the owners, we can maybe head off potential scams in the future.
Thanks again, Kent. |

The king blond is more like a 50's fender blonde that has a little opaque white paint mixed with a bunch of clear for a milky almost clear finish.
