Upright bass size

My question is directed towards the scale on upright bass. I am renting a 3/4 upright bass right now and was wondering. What is the different between the sizes of course they go from 1/2 being the smallest to the full size. But how much smaller is a 1/2 is it like a fender jazz bass? were it has only 20 frets (well even though it does not have frets) you know what I mean?

If anyone could expand on this thatd be great (y)

AHBG has a nice diagram and chart:

http://www.gollihurmusic.com/faq/2-S...IZING_FAQ.html

There are no "standard dimensions" for double basses. The size whose string length is closest to the Fender is 1/4.

It's worth taking a look at the FAQ and links if you are just getting started. Welcome to a weird but wonderful world.
