| | | Upton Willow Any idea if this instrument would be ideal for a classical University student in his final years? My budget is under 10k, I currently have a Xue Chang Sun bass that sounds good, not sure if this bass would be much of a step up. Comments plz! http://www.uptonbass.com/UB-Willow-Double-Bass/

If you're making that kind of move, get a bus/train/plane ticket and compare in person. Man, you're talking about your long-term musical partner, right? |

get from hearing the bass in the small front room at Uptons.
Totally agree with the posters above though. For that kind of money you really should go hear/play an instrument for yourself.

I agree that, if you are considering it, hop on a plane and play it. |

Before I got onto the Paesold 4/4 models, I used to personally play the flatback Carcassi models from JRMusic. I'm a big fan of the string length and general body dimensions, especially the wide C bout. I like the big low end of willow flatback Baker model basses from Kolstein when I carried that line. I like the willow Shens. With the nice finish, great ebony quality, and my favorite tuners, this kind of instrument really makes my mouth water. Gary and Eric have done a great thing! You get a big vote of confidence from me. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
