Value of old double bass

I have been offered a double bass form the 60s. It's not in a very good condition, but playable. It's not a special brand or anything, just an old bass. How much would it approximately be worth?

Can't tell without pics or a fuller description. Even with that additional information, online advice on this would be sketchy. Best thing would be to take it to a luthier who deals in basses, IMHO.

Well, first of all, basses from the 1960s are not really considered "old"!

I dunno, Damon. I was born in '60 and this guy I work with told me that I was "as old as f**k." Of course, I think that he meant it in a loving way...

Find a respected luthier in your area and take the bass there. Ask that person about the health of the bass and what they think its value is including before and after any needed work is done. That's the only way to get a fair assessment of the value of the bass.
