Since it's too hard to choose between thompson and upton laminated bass withough playing them (live in canada), i looked for another option and here is what I found (and almost fell in love with): http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAdLa...AdId=142363244
Bought avril 2002 / JM Forget -Luthiers inc.
Salvadore De Durro
B&J New-York / Sole Importers
(made in West Germany)
Pick-up Fishman BP-100
it s about 30 years old
it has a solid spruce top and the rest is laminated, an ebony fingerboard.
can someone tell me the value of such kind of bass? should I jump on this deal?
what about those... seems to be fine tuner ? http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik...disp=inline&zw
Thanks a lot

How much are they asking? Can you get your DB teacher to have a look at it with you? |

Also put one on a Chinese bass that I sold recently, that had the same effect of really warming up the sound.
On the other hand, on my carved solo bass I have a marvin tailpice, which really makes that bass sing.
Long and short, I think the OP can live with the tailpiece if the bass is otherwise ok.

| yes, and strange thing is that it comes with many interesting options but no ajustable brige... wich is usually one of the basic and practical option. Quote: |

| thank you for your answer, I already read the thread you talked about with attention. Very interesting, I was wondering how much you payed for your instrument, and what was the actal value, if it not to indiscreet Quote: |

But I think there's some theory that on some basses more mass in the tailpiece helps the arco tone (not nec. the pizz). My hunch is that the carved Eberle and your possible bass would have a lot in common.
Other than what I felt and heard on those specific basses, I haven't got any other insight.

edit: the way I read the ad is that they are asking 3000, not 4000. Or maybe my French is just too awful?
