| | | | Very old instrument found on craigslist Help me identify the age and origins of this bass I picked up on Craiglist yesterday. Based on the tuners and bouts, I'm guessing it is German and more than 100 years old.
Any ideas?
It needs the neck reset, but the body has no open cracks or seams.
Thanks in advance.

| | | | I'd rather not say the exact price. Suffice it to say it was well-priced. After I invest the money needed to fix it up, I think it will make a rather nice instrument. I have no idea what it's worth will be, since I haven't really been able to play it.

The shape of it remindes me of a kay that has been refinished, but I'm pretty aweful at guessing what things are on the interweb. kurt- I get the vibe that the neck needs to be reset because of failure, the heel looks cracked in the pics. |

Good eye. I think it's actually a King, made by the H.N. White Co. in Cleveland, OH. |

But I seriously doubt its a king. I have never heard or seen of a king built to that quality.
hope you like it! |

However, I suspect something pretty funny is going on.
A good shot of the scroll would seal the deal.

I'm just a casual observer, but there are many similarities I see (the heel of the neck/neck angle and overstand, the shape of the top, the button). Was the neck broken on this bass? I can't tell if that line in the picture is a break, but if it is that's exactly where all of those Kings would break their necks (there are some pix on the Fretwell page of Kings with the neck break, too).
Maybe you found the old grandfather of the HN White Kings! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
